Choose a suitable work environment. Because you will be working with different time of paints or spray paint, you will need to work in a well-ventilated environment. Cover your work surface with newspapers or plastic cloth to protect it. If you work inside, don’t forget to keep the windows open.
Used pots usually have specks of dirt left from the plants or the brand-new one have a couple of layers of dust that needed to be clean before coloring. Start off with brush the dirt with brush or cloth and then soaking it with warm water and a small amount of dish soap. If the pot has a price tag that hard to come off, try soaking it with hot water for an hour and scrubbing it. After that, let the pot dry in a sunny spot. Wipe the pot with a microfiber cloth to make sure the pot absolutely dry.

3. Apply water sealantThis step is totally optional. After you cleaned the terracotta pots, you can apply the water sealant to the inside of the pot. This can help extend the life of herbs that you put on the pots if you are unable to water the plants regularly.
Consider sealing the outside of the pot with an oil-based spray-on primer. If you are going to paint the entire pot one, solid color, then you will need to prime it. Remember to be careful when using spray paint, make sure you give a good rage between the can and the pots and apply a light, even coat. You can apply a second coat, if necessary, once the first one dries. Applying some primer will not only help you achieve a smoother finish, but it will also prevent the pot from soaking up any paint.
